Journal Writing Ideas for Eat Your Vegetables Day Celebrations

Some additional information in one line
Mari L. McCarthy June 17, 2013

Summer is the perfect season for fresh foods, so it makes sense that June is also National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month. June 17 marks Eat Your Vegetables Day, which was created to promote better eating habits and a more nutritious diet. Today is a great occasion to eat vegetables at every meal or take it a step further and...be a vegetarian for a day. Dare Ya!

In addition to eating extra vegetables, you can celebrate this healthy holiday through these  journal writing ideas:

1. Start a gardening journal.

Have you always wanted to start a vegetable garden? Now is the perfect time! Vegetables like beets, cabbage, carrots, corn, cucumbers, and squash can be planted in June. Start planting what’s in season now, and then adjust your garden as the seasons change. When you start your garden, record your notes regularly in your journal. A gardening journal is a great way to keep track of what you’ve planted and what plants are doing well, as well as document your experiences and milestones.

2. Keep a recipe journal.

Do you have loose recipes that are scattered across your kitchen or tucked away in an old planner? There is a better way: put all of your favorite recipes into a recipe journal. This is a great way to keep track of family recipes, recipes you want to try, or even recipes that you know you don’t want to try again. If you don’t want to put the exact recipe in a journal, you can make a directory for your recipes by making a list of the name of each recipe, the magazine or cookbook it’s in, and the edition/year of that cookbook so you can find recipes easily. You can even use this recipe journal to start recording recipes you want to try with fresh vegetables from your garden.

3. Journal about your food adventures.

Are there vegetables you’ve never liked or never tried? Journal about them! If you don’t like a certain vegetable but haven’t had it in awhile, use this holiday to see if your taste buds have changed. You can also try experimenting with that vegetable in a variety of ways to see if you would like it if it was cooked a certain way. Keeping a journal about your cooking adventures is fun, and it keeps a record of the things you’ve tried and liked or disliked.
