5 tips for Journaling To Self Discovery resized 600Your personal journal is an excellent medium for learning more about who you are and what you want out of life. These five simple tips will help you as you write your way to personal growth.

1. Ask the tough questions.

If you are journaling for self-discovery, you are hoping to get to know yourself in a deeper and more sincere way. This means you can’t be afraid to ask yourself questions that frighten or challenge you. Seek out questions that help you define your values, your goals or your true self.

2. Be honest with yourself.

When you do broach difficult or serious topics in your personal journal, it is important to let down your guard and write honestly and from the heart. Your journal is just for you, so try to set aside what you think you should do and what other people may expect of you and listen to what you feel.

3. Get playful.

Journaling for self-discovery doesn’t have to be all hard work! Infuse your journal entries with fun and play when you can, and get in touch with your silly, creative inner kid. It is cathartic to laugh and be light.

4. Add variety.

Keep your relationship with your personal journal fresh and exciting by incorporating new ideas, prompts and activities into your writing. For inspiration, check out Create Write Now’s ever-growing list of journaling ideas.

5. Journal consistently.

Writing frequently is the key to build a fulfilling journaling practice. The more often you write, the more comfortable you become with sharing your thoughts and exploring your ideas. Practice writing a little bit every day – even just a few minutes at a time will help you grow as a journaler.
