A Novel Approach to Journaling

They command my attention.  I am talking about words.  I can't ignore them.  Like a woodpecker, they work at my skull until they get into my head.  That is how I became a poet.  I simply listened. Poetry is instant gratification.  It is great expression of emotion through the literal or abstract with symbolism and imagery lending color and texture to my joy or angst.  I've been writing poetry for twenty years.  I still listen.  Several years ago, the poetry turned to prose; sentences, rather than fragments began to flow naturally.  I recall the first novel I wrote.  It began as a short story.  I reveled in working on it daily, finding it addictive to my well being.  Soon the short story turned into fifty pages with no ending in sight.  I realized I was a very good listener, had fallen into another facet of my writing.  Two other books followed, making them a trilogy.  I had fallen in love with self-expression.

In steps my friend, circumstance.  I have had MS for twenty years, too.  My optimism aside, it tripped me up no matter how fast I thought I was moving my feet.  With this more serious challenge, somewhere inside I transformed.  I bubbled under the surface for months before diving head first into uncharted waters.  I truly had to work at this novel, analyzing and using my viewpoint and fears.
